Want to take your black boots up a notch? Hand painted boots make a bold statement and add new life to your footwear! Painted boots are a unique accessory or add flair to your style.
The crisp fall air is here and that means it is boot season! When I pulled these boots out of my closet, I thought it would be fun to “zush” them up a bit!
We all have a pair (or two or three!) of black boots in our closet. High heel, low heel, ankle booties, and tall boots. Especially if your boots are a little worn and well-loved, why not grab some paint and a potato and give them a little “refresh?”
I grabbed my DIY Paint, paint pen, and a potato and got to work! Yes, a potato. A russet potato makes a great stamp.
Create Your Own Hand Painted Boots
First I painted the backside of the boots solid with DIY Seaglass paint. Let that dry.
Next, I unzipped the boots and laid them flat on my studio table. This made a nice flat surface for writing. I used a Posca paint pen and wrote one of my favorite quotes. These pens are acrylic paint and they dry quickly.
Make Your Potato Stamp
What’s a potato got to do with painted boots? Potatoes make the perfect stamp! While the lettering was drying, I made my potato stamp. Just cut your potato in half, use a pencil to draw a star, and use a pairing knife to cut out the negative space. Voila!
I brushed DIY Golden Ticket paint on the potato and stamped gold stars all over the boots. This is a great gold paint, it really shimmers on the leather.
Then I zipped the boots back up and started painting the drips! I just love the look of drippy paint. I used DIY Seaglass, Water Lily and Hey Sailor paints. I brushed paint on the top of the boots and let the paint drip and run down the leather.
