Nancy Erickson Dutmer
Nancy Erickson Dutmer’s theatrical and artistic upbringing heavily influenced her creative path through life. Most of her adulthood was spent singing, acting, directing and choreographing in the theatre, including a costuming and choreography stint at the Kodak Theatre in LA with Christopher Lloyd, John Goodman and Jane Leeves. In addition to performing on stage, she has sewed alongside costumers in various theatres. Nancy has costumed, built props, and sets for many theatrical productions, so naturally when it came to creating her art persona, Scarlet Lake, she strived for flamboyance.
As a child, she longed to be a fashion designer. Encouraged by her Mother, an artist, Nancy would design clothing and her Mother would sew it for her. Later Nancy made all of her own clothing, often taking apart thrift store items to create her one-of-a-kind look. This passion for altering clothing continues today where Nancy even incorporates her own paintings into various fashions.
Along with wearable art, Nancy paints with oils and fabric paints, and has a passion for bead embroidery creating award winning Circus themes, nudes, portraits and animals, all with a decidedly vintage and theatrical flair about them. She was recently featured in the Fall edition of Where Women Create magazine with her dog, Chiwi, showcasing various spots in her artistically eclectic house where she creates her art.
