Strength, Resilience, and the Power of Art

By Kim White

Breast cancer is a battle that too many women are called to face. Behind every diagnosis is a story of courage, vulnerability, and determination. Angels with Attitude is my tribute to these women – a series of eight paintings created to honour personal journeys and raise awareness through the transformative power of creativity.

The Spark of Inspiration

The women around me – their stories, their laughter (yes, laughter, even in hard times), and their courage – were impossible to ignore. I wanted to capture that spirit not as something heavy or tragic, but as a reminder of the friendship and connection that can carry us through life. These angels became my way of saying: You are fierce, you are radiant, and your spirit cannot be dimmed.

The Heart of the Process

I didn’t want these works to be only my interpretation, so I invited three friends – women who have walked this path themselves to “christen” the blank canvases with words and feelings. Raw, honest, unfiltered. Those marks became the emotional foundation of each piece.

Throughout the painting process, I shared daily updates with these incredible women, letting them see how their words and energy shaped the work. It was important to me that they didn’t just inspire the paintings but were woven into them – their presence always there, guiding my hand.

When the series was complete, I turned to these three friends and to another in Australia and asked them to help name the angels. Those names gave each painting its own personality, layering the works with even more meaning.

The Significance of Angels: Symbols of Hope and Transformation

For centuries, angels have represented hope and protection. In this series, they embody something more: the ability to rise, to transform, and to endure. Their wings are inspired by both birds and butterflies: birds for freedom, flight, and to rise above; butterflies for transformation, rebirth and new beginnings.

These angels are not distant or untouchable; they are grounded, powerful, deeply human and full of spirit.

More Than Paintings

Art has a curious kind of magic. It inspires, it comforts, and it sparks conversations that might otherwise be left unspoken. Angels with Attitude is more than a series of paintings it’s an invitation to pause, reflect, and feel. Each piece invites the viewer to make their own connections. Some may see determination, others may see grace, others might simply be struck by the joy and vibrancy shining through.

For those who choose to bring one into their home, it becomes more than decoration. It’s a daily reminder of possibility, beauty, and of finding ways to rise above life’s hardest challenges.

Join Me in Spreading Hope

Angels with Attitude is my tribute to the women who face breast cancer with bravery, grace, and a healthy dash of attitude. It’s also an invitation to you – to reflect, to connect, and to celebrate their extraordinary spirit through art.

Because in the end, these paintings aren’t only about survival. They’re about living fiercely, embracing change, and discovering beauty even in the hardest moments.

So here they are: eight angels, each with a story, each with wings ready to take flight. May they inspire you, as they have inspired me.
